240 Volt Breaker Compatible With Vera Secure

I just installed the following - https://products.z-wavealliance.org/products/2939. Construction is bomber and I was able to easily run 3/4in liquidtight conduit (in and out) w/ really heavy guage wire for 40amp hot tub control. There is no device wizard for this GE/Jasko device but generic Z-wave works fine and also provides a reading of the current wattage usage.

US residential line voltage is “nominally” 110 VAC, 60 Hz provided by two 120 VAC legs that are 180 degrees out of phase. Connecting across the two legs gives you 220 VAC. In practice the voltages are higher (my line voltage is typically 123 VAC) and a nominal 120 VAC service has been common for decades, resulting in ~ 240 VAC across the legs. Electric dryers and ranges are powered this way, as well as other high-powered devices like pools, spas, and electric vehicle chargers. This device https://products.z-wavealliance.org/products/2939 is actually two contactors (one for each leg) as this is the only safe way to switch the 240 VAC to insure that there is no voltage present when the switch is open.

You must read the specification carefully when selecting a relay/contactor. Note the specs from the GE/Jasco device:

Contact Ratings: 120-277 VAC, 40A Resistive Single Phase
120-277 VAC, 20A Ballast load (Inductive) Single phase
125 VAC, 15 A Tungsten
250 VAC, 5 A Tungsten
1HP@120VAC,
2HP @ 240VAC

Notice the derating needed for various load types are various line voltages.

You use a relay such as: Linear FS20Z-1 Z-Wave 20-amp Isolated Contact Fixture Module to control the circuit. This is the same device I turn my pool pump on/off.
