Backup does not work anymore suddenly (404 error)

Suddenly I can’t make any backups anymore. Not on server and not local. On my browser (Chrome) a new tab is opened with an error 404 Error - not found. the URL I see is http://192.168.1.204/cgi-bin/cmh/backup.sh?external=1
The IP adress is the correct adres (Vera Edge firmware 1.7.3500).
Who can help me solve this ?

This is bizarre. This URL invokes a script on the vera. It is this one: /www/cgi-bin/cmh/backup.sh
If it opens a new tab, likely it is launching it. You may want to try SSH-ing into your box and see what error is thrown at you when running the script.

So what command should I type when i have access via ssh: cgi-bin/cmh/backup.sh ?

I have now logged in to the unit via ssh but don’t know how to proceed ? Alternative: is there a luup command to do a manual backup?

Sorry for the late reply, I was busy sending other messages.

Once you are logged in just type:

/www/cgi-bin/cmh/backup.sh

And see what it returns

It returns:

/$ /www/cgi-bin/cmh/backup.sh
-ash: /www/cgi-bin/cmh/backup.sh: not found

so this file backup.sh does not exist on my Vera Edge.
I checked on a Vera Plus I have and there I see this file. And making backups works on this controller.

So how can I resolve this on my Vera Edge ?
I am in process of moving devices to this Vera Edge and want to make very regular backups

Ohh wow this is weird. Maybe I have not spent enough time on the edge. Could you list out what you see from “ls -l /www/cgi-bin/cmh/” ?

/$ ls -l /www/cgi-bin/cmh/

Ok now I know for certain your file is missing somehow. Likely got corrupted and deleted as I think on the newer FW version, this folder is actually write only. I would recommend to reinstall the firmware. It is very likely you have some bad sectors on the flash storage drive. Beware.

Many thanks for your help!
Making the backups worked many times past 2 weeks. Yesterday evening I got this error message for the first time.
What is strange to me is that the daily scheduled backup did work this morning (it is every morning at 10:15 AM). So today I added a couple of new devices and again I got this error message.
Does this make any sense ?
Should I wait till tomorrow morning and see if the daily backup worked out well (I live in Holland it is now 21:00h

Then about your advice: how do in reinstall the firmware ?

I am fairly sure that this file was there before and suddenly disappeared. Possibly after a reboot where the OS detected corrupted sector and started a clean up.

You can re-install the firmware by grabbing the url for it and pasting it into the url field. Pretty safe to keep your configuration in this case during the upgrade.

OK.
And were can I find this URL? On the old forum I could found these. Now don’t know where to find them or how to search.
I am on Running Version 1.7.3500

I am looking back at my old stuff and I could only find these which are somewhat newer:

and bingo

Thanks again !! I just started the reinstall. Keep my fingers crossed coming 15 minutes…

@Rafale: it worked! Now I can make backups again.
You are a hero! The remaining Vera users (including me but I don’t know how long I will stay with the ongoing failures and disrespect to the current userbase from the Vera team…) will miss you now you have ditched your Vera’s and probably will be less active on this forum

Glad you got it fixed. If I knew from the get go that you were on an older firmware I would have done something else. That folder was actually writable on this version so you could have just copied it over from the rom partition… oh well. For next time.

I will stick around. I am still working to pave the way for a more stable/reliable solution and help whoever needs it as my time permits just as many others like me around here.
