Howto Upgrade the Vera Alerts Plugin

Folks have asked how to update the Plugin if you have an older version installed.
The auto-update feature does not work well.

You can update it with the following:

http://YourVeraIPAddress:3480/data_request?id=update_plugin&Plugin=3008

If you accidentally upgrade your Vera running UI5 to a UI7 version, you can recover by restoring the latest UI5 version:

Hey Richard, having an issue with Vera Alerts. My Vera display jeeps showing VeraAlerts: Startup Lua Failed. I’ve tried Updating the app. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling it to no avail. Any suggestions?

have you tried to click the wrench on the vera alerts device and click all tabs and buttons 1 time and see if there comes a save button on right top of vera. press save and ur good to go. when changing scenes you have to do this after scene change saved.

its not really neccesary to update neighbournodes and reconfigure devices aka repair z-wave… its a plugin that is the problem right ?
there’s nothing in this log richard could use. better install the plugin info viewer and find the piece of log that speaks about vera alerts if you could do that it would be helpfull

Ok I’ve got the info viewer app installed. I am obviously very new to it…any help on how to use it to get the log info you referenced would be very much appreciated!

when u press the wrench on the info viewer device it shows this settings page. under update you find this link : info Viewer page
click that one and a new tab in browser opens. there u click on : View logs: Vera log file
now in the tab UI5 you press reload button and then immediatly go to the logs tab in browser. you’ll see that it says : 500 - Internal Server Error
wait a bit till you see the logs comming in again and press the lightbulb left up in this webpage. scroll up till you find the 500 internal server error and look from there for any reference of the vera alerts and copy and paste that piece of log here.

You did not capture enough of the log file.
Start capturing before hitting the reload.
After it gets the error … wait another 20 seconds.
Then send the entire log to my email address (you can find it on the Web Site)

Richard - I’m very disappointed with the latest version, too many bugs - I receive notification every time a motion detector is trigger and I do not even have any notification even setup for any motion detector - it comes out with the text for other notification in my case - Front Door Open (I get hundreds of them for one for every motion detector trigger). Had to turn everything off because my phone would not stop when people are in the house.

Here are the logs - I have an GE Caddx Alarm system connected with vera using plugin Caddx plugin - somehow every time the motion sensors are triggered it sends a Front Door Opened notification. Let me know if you need anymore info

Are these Motion and Door Sensors part of your alarm system ?
It looks like you alarm system is sending Door Events when your motion sensor triggers.

Richard,

Yes - Alarm has 4 wired door open/close door sensors and 3 motion sensors - after the last Vera reboot I no longer get notification with the motion sensor but i’m missing a bunch of notification i have setup that i used to received with previous rev of the software.

I am a little confused … At first you are getting too many alerts and now you are not getting any alerts ?

Please check your Vera Alerts settings tab. And select the various users to see which profiles are assigned to which users.

Richard, I was wrong i disable all the vera alerts that is the reason i was getting none - I just turned them back on and i’m still getting Front Door Alerts for the Motion detectors - it used to work without issues on previous version. Can I downgrade ? I went from ver 2.0 to 4.1

Well you can shoot the proverbial messenger (Vera Alerts). But from the log it looks like your alarm plugin setup has problems. It is sending a bunch of change requests to Vera when nothing has changed.

In the future, please put long logs in an attachment. It’s good forum etiquette.

I did not write the Alarm plugin, to me it looks like the alarm plugin sent a status of all items in the alarm when any item is triggered (not just the one that is triggered) I only received trigger for the front door because i have a notification there (for open/close) - if i had a notification for all 8 items I would receive 8 notification twice (it send a report for sensor Tripped = 1 and then for Tripped = 0 for motion). This was not a problem on previous version of the Veralerts plugin, can I help you debug the problem (if you think is a problem)

Below door sensor was not tripped Tripped was: 0 now: 0 (Alarm sent a full summary along with motion triggered) but a Veralert notification was sent but the event itself was not triggered (Event::Evaluate 42 Front Door Opened scene Front Door Opened is false repeat 0/-1 <0x30e62680>)

Which Alarm Plugin is this ?
I do not know why the previous version would have worked … Maybe it never sent an alert for the Door closed because you never ran “Notifications Configure” after you added it. You can disable that one event, since that’s alerting you of the normal state.

This is what i found so far
I had two Front Door notifications one for Door Open (tripped) and the other one for Door Closed (not tripped) - for some reason after upgrade Veralaerts would send a "Door Closed"notification for ever motion sensor trigger - I assume because the alarm sends a full summary of all sensors with every trigger and the Door is Closed (Not tripped) - this used to work OK before upgrade but not with the latest version.

I removed all the notifications for the (not tripped) for the doors for now and it works but i’m not able to log or know when the doors are closed after they are opened.

I still get all the alarms notification duplicated for some reason - not a big deal just annoying
