Using Vera with Home Link car remote

I have a built-in 3 button Home Link remote in my car (2002 Range Rover). Is there a gateway/translator that I can use? When I pull in, want to hit a button and have Vera turn the lights on, etc.

Thx in advance,

I love when I ask a question and immediately find the answer…

See info here for Home Link - Z-Wave bridge from Wayne Dalton

Good information to post. Thank you!

Just keep in mind it doesn’t work the other way - you won’t be able to control your garage door via z-wave

did you have any luck with this? Doesn’t look like wayne dalton is making those anymore.

If not I’m wondering if there’s a way to use the insteon controller to do it. I think though that homelink is ‘secure’ x10 and if i recall the only interface to deal with that is the w800 devices from http://www.wgldesigns.com/w800.html

maybe someone makes a luup plug in for that at some point.

would be nice to come home- hit the homelink button in my car to turn on some lights, unlock the door, etc.

I think i found something to think about:

http://www.hometoys.com/ezine/08.06/green/wgl.htm

basically it’s one of the w800 type devices (need the 32 bit versions to do homelink as it’s secure)- then it takes the incoming f x10 and converts it to powerline x10 that we could pick up using the insteon/x10 support that vera already has.

I have the wayne dalton bridge, and never successfully got it to sync up with the remotes for the garage door. Not sure what the deal was, I just never got around to messin with it some more until I get my lighting in the garage done.

Sorry to bump a really old thread, but I recently purchased a vehicle with HomeLink, and had the same question (can I integrate it with my vera). Unfortunately, as mentioned earlier, the device mentioned in the second post appears to no longer exist. Are there any more current options? Thanks.

What do you want to accomplish? Here’s an option:

Use Home-link to control the garage door, and nothing else.

Use a Z-Wave door sensor on garage door serves as a trigger for a scene(s).

Door opens, after dark, lights go on, A/C adjusts, TV comes on… (I’d recommend against opening door locks and disabling alarms.)

Just use Home Link to open/close your garage door from your car.

If you want to do automation … then

If you add a door sensor … you are 1/2 the way to being able to control the garage door from Vera.
If you have something that can logically click a seperate garage door opener … you can control it as well.

See the Garage Door Plugin at:
http://rts-services.com/Vera/Plugin/GarageDoor/

I used a Global Cache iTach Wifi Relay connected to a garage Door opener to control two garage doors. (Actually there are three relays … you can control 3 garage doors). You also need the Door sensor for each door to detect if it’s open or closed. The Garage door then looks like a Lock on Vera … So you unlock it to open the garage door and lock it to close it. I think all 3rd party phone apps can control it.

Then it’s easy to Automation it … I close my garage doors if I leave them open after Sunset.
I can open the Garage door remotely for a delivery when I am not home.

You can then use the Program Logic Event Generator plugin to turn on lights.
I would also recommend adding the Day or Night plugin.

Then in PLEG:
Add the following Input Triggers:
Night - Day or Night Indicates Night
GarageOpen - Garage Door Sensor indicates open

Condition:
AutoOn GarageOpen and NIGHT
AutoOff AutoOn; NOW > 10:00

Actions:
AutoOn Turn On Garage Light, and maybe an inside House light
AutoOff Turn Off the Garage Light

There are other threads out there about reminding you if you leave your garage door open …
Or if you have a garage door that senses obstructions … you can auto-close the door.

Well, I don’t have a garage (or obviously, garage door) So I was looking for something more along the lines of being able to hit the button to unlock my house when I get home with a bunch of groceries (I already have the zwave door locks). Of course, there are keychain fobs or the like that can accomplish this as well, I was just thinking it would be nice to be able to make use of those buttons that are just sitting there at the moment. Thanks for the well-thought out workarounds though

You can still buy the Homelink gateway from a few places. Just from a quick search I found this:

re-Re-RE-resurrecting . . .

This item is still listed for $29.99. Does your response answer ibrewster’s question in the affirmative? I too have these 3 buttons on my 1999 town car & 2007 Toyota Sienna (don’t have a garage or any Homelink stuff) but wondering if the 3 magical buttons have any hidden nerdly goodness within Vera?

Chris

So yes you can link any of the buttons in your car (or key fobs) to the home link, and then trigger scenes in Vera to do anything. They are a bit finicky to set up, but work well once done.

Thanks for the clarification. I think I’ll give it a go ;D

I recently bought one of those from the same place. It’s Wayne Dalton but instead of Home Settings it’s branded Car2U. I was able to get the unit set up in UI5 and attached scenes to it. The scenes work fine when pressing the buttons on the unit. I tried to link it to the Homelink system in my vehicle but was unsuccessful. I didn’t spend a lot of time trying to get it to work and for now that project is on the backburner. It’s a bit of a pain to do the Homelink setup because once you do the pairing you have to plug the device back into an outlet to see if it works. The Homelink part only works with the unit plugged into your household power.

My experiences with setting up the home link part involved a lot of trial and error. However it does work now though!

Thanks for the clarification. I think I’ll give it a go ;D[/quote]

Hey Chris, any luck with this? I’m curious as well!

I ordered the item on the day I made the post above, but have not received the item yet
