Virtual switch on mobile phone

I set up a virtual switch to turn on and off a group of lights (Virtual On/Off Switches). The switch is a trigger for an On scene and an Off scene. I believe that is the way to program the function. It seems to work when actuated from a web browser.

It has two flaws that I see. First is if the switch shows ON, from a default state when the controller boots up, then you have to press OFF and then press ON to get the ‘turn on the lights’ function.
Maybe related to this thread issue, but I am not sure I see what gets the switch in the ‘ready’ state.

The second is that the virtual switch shows up on my mobile (iphone) but has no response (you press on or off and nothing happens).
I am thinking maybe that app does not work on mobiles?
Thread indicating not all apps are not mobile ready
Thread never addressed

Any thoughts on either of these issues?
Do i need a different switch app?

The old Virtual Switch is not maintained anymore (but works fine for me). The Switchboard Plugin does the same job and is actually maintained by @rigpapa. Consider to change.
