Energy Startup Offering Some Solutions to Propane Issues

Hello Everyone,

I have been working with a new tech startup out of Boston called Tank Utility and we have developed a WiFi-connected propane smart meter which allows you to monitor their propane usage through a mobile-first, web-based app on your smartphone or computer.

Our founder knows what it is like to run out of propane in the winter and have to deal with the major home damage that comes from frozen or busted pipes, so he developed this device and we are looking for your feedback and general ideas about how this smart meter could help you out.

Check us out at http://www.tankutility.com/ to learn more about us. This video (http://vimeo.com/108803866) on our homepage gives you a great sense of who we are and what we are trying to do.

We want to hear from you to find out how we can make this device as functional as possible, so please feel free to share any and all opinions.

Here is a look at what our prototype looks like: http://www.tankutility.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/photo-2.jpg

Do you have a public API for your meter.
If so than publish it and some one will likely build a plugin for it.

Otherwise this may not even the right forum for this information.

We do have a rest API for users to leverage tank level data, but we haven’t yet published it due to our current stage of development which is user testing the hardware and user interface. If there’s any other aspect of the device that could help you leverage the data in addition to the the API, please let us know.

Micasaverde users have expressed interest in this type of technology previously, but it seems like a product didn’t exist to meet the home automation market’s need for propane level visibility until now.

I will be actively monitoring this thread, so if you have any further questions, do not hesitate to ask. We will be launching a crowd-funding campaign in the very near future, so be on the lookout for that and spread the word about the propane smart meter to other Micasaverde users who may have an interest in this.

The more feedback we receive, the better.

For anyone who is interested, our Kickstarter campaign is live and you can check it out by visiting this link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/952047660/tank-utility-keeping-you-warm-all-winter-long

We really appreciate the readership on this forum, so please keep active and continue giving us your feedback!

Has anyone made a plug-in for this yet? Looks easy but I’ve never messed with Vera plugins. Willing to send cash via PayPal to develop one if one doesn’t already exist.
