GE Z-Wave Plus Smart Motion Dimmer

Can the “_Generic IO” device be used for anything useful? I have the dimmer and alarm working with some scenes. Too bad that Alexa doesnt support motion detect alarms  Only the dimmer can be controlled by Alexa.

I was wondering if there is a specific reason or need for the Generic IO device or if it can be repurposed for controlling a variable on the main parent of the dimmer (ie, the motion detect sensor). Meaning, if the toggle is Off, then reset paramater #6 to a value of 0 to disable the motion sensor. May be useful in some circumstances to disable this.

There is a list of configuration parameters here…

I suspect you have to go to device options and add configuration settings.
I’m not sure how exactly. perhaps someone much smarter than I can explain.

I installed this in my child’s room to automate the light. The problem is when he rolls over in bed at night the light turns on. I’m hoping I can disable the motion switch but still use the sensor to tell vera there is motion, and a pleg condition to turn the light on when it is not bed time. I fear I may be asking for too much from this device though.

I was able to turn off the “operation mode” on the switch from “occupancy” to “manual” and then use vera to control the light based on the motion sensor for the switch. Now it’s like having two independent devices.

I created a virtual switch on vera and scenes that will be triggered by Alexa (i.e. Alexa good morning/night routine) to turn the virtual switch on and off. Then using pleg condition that only turns the light on when the switch detects motion and the virtual switch is on. I didn’t want it to be time based because we don’t always go to sleep and wake up at the same time especially on weekends.

I’m glad to find this thread.

Today I’m trying to put the Enbrighten In-Wall “Smart Motion Switch” ZW4006 into service. This appears to be the same device as Jasco 26931.

I’m using a Vera Edge running the latest version of UI7 1.7.5185 (7.31)" that supported on the device as of this date.

Some of the information provided in the earlier posts in this thread seems very useful.

For reference, when I “included” this device as a generic device on my Vera Edge, I had three devices appear in the GUI’s list of devices:

“Smart Motion Switch” ← I gave it this name during the “include” process
“_Appliance Module” ← I’m not sure where this name came from
“_Generic IO” ← I’m not sure where THIS name came from either

Otherwise, I couldn’t find the device in the Vera’ UI7 GUI’s list of devices, i.e., under the UI7 GUI “Devices : Add Device” list of devices. The only option I was given was to add it as a “generic device”.

I’ll post a follow-up later if/as I learn more.

As noted in an earlier post by kyle.dawson, of the three devices that appear after a “generic include”:

  • one device is the motion sensor
  • another device the on/off switch
  • another device is a mystery… but I wonder if it’s related to the “light sensing” capability of this device (parameter 14 in the list of parameters found at https://products.z-wavealliance.org/products/2035
